Deaths of Assassination and Lynching

The dirtiest plans during the July 15 process emerged with images of assassination and lynching. Military students, soldiers and some civilians were targeted by paramilitary groups on the streets, especially on the Bosphorus Bridge. Assassinations and poisonings during police custody and detention were added to the lynching experienced on the night of the coup and after. A systematic process of lynching and assassination took place.

One of the suspicious deaths in the country after July 15 occurred in Isparta. Businessman Vedat Savlu, for whom a search warrant was issued, fell from the balcony of his house on the 4th floor during the police raid on his house. The businessman, who was hospitalized, could not be saved.

He was martyred as a result of the events that took place on the night of the coup on 15 July 2016. His body was delivered to his family a week later in the vehicles of the Meat and Fish Institution.

Police officer Ozan Ozen, who worked at the Pendik District Police Department, was shot in the head by unknown persons while he was driving at the toll booths in Orhanlı on the evening of 15 July. Ozen, who was martyred at the scene, was carrying soldiers who took shelter in his police vehicle, saying, “We are not coup plotters.”

Lieutenant Emre Demirbilek took the orders to go to Ataturk Int’l Airport along with the cadets on the night of July 15, 2016. While crossing the bridge, he turned to the cadets and warned them, “The bullets that were distributed will be collected when we return to the garrison,they are state property,” and he was martyred as he got out of the vehicle.

According to reports, Hasan Karakas, who had been serving in Army as an Enlisted Man for 45 day only, was slain after being removed from his barracks during an exercise in Ankara on the evening of July 15. Karakas was simply one of the soldiers murdered in Ankara on the night of the July 15 so-called coup attempt, and his death went remain secret.

While serving at Kuleli Military High School as a canteen officer, Kurtulus Kaya died on the Bosphorus Bridge 12 days before his discharge. He was taken on the orders of his commanders to the bridge. Kaya was one of the soldiers killed by lynching on the Bosphorus Bridge.

Lieutenant Colonel Ismail Cakmak died suspiciously in Silivri Prison after being arrested on the charge of coup plotter. He allegedly committed suicide by being found hanging from a sheet by his throat in the stairwell. In his detention statement, it was revealed that Cakmak had his troops withdrawn after he said to the coup plotter’s commander that ‘I will not obey the order’.
