Yahya Alkin was known as the ‘teacher of the teachers’ in the Religious Affairs Administration. He was the specialist in exegesis and retired mufti. Alkin had to settle in Germany during the Tenkil process. Until the last moment of his life, he reacted to the injustices and oppression in Turkey caused by the regime. He passed away on December 14 2020, in the hospital in Germany, where he was treated due to the Covid -19. Bequeathing thousands of Qur’an students he trained, along with a life woven with the Qur’an and science, Yahya Alkin was buried with prayers in the family cemetery in Yenice Village of his hometown, Cayeli district in Rize city, on Friday, December 18, 2020.
Yahya Alkin was born in 1942 in Yenice Village of Cayeli district in Rize city. He finished primary school in his village. He became a hafiz (*) in Izmir and graduated from Religious Vocational High School in Sakarya. Alkin graduated from Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute (now called Faculty of Theology, Marmara University) in 1968. After working as an imam and preacher for three years, he was appointed as a Mufti (**) to the Erzincan and Mugla Provinces in 1970 and 1971, respectively.
Yahya Alkin also worked as a Pendik Mufti in Istanbul and finished the Haseki Mufti and Preachers Specialization Course in 1978 as the course’s top scorer. After that, he worked as a lecturer at the same institution. “The Situation and Reality According to Us”, “Prophets in the Qur’an and Our Prophet”, “Islam and Basic Knowledge” were among the books he published.
Alkin, who devoted his 78 years of life to edify people and was known as the ‘teacher of the teachers’ in the Religious Affairs Administration, had to leave his beloved homeland because he stood against the regime’s injustices brought about by the Tenkil process in Turkey.
Yahya Alkin, who lived in Germany, passed away on December 14 2020, in the hospital where he was treated for Covid-19. Upon his will, Yahya Alkin was buried in the Yenice village of Cayeli district of Rize province on December 18 2020.
