Biography

Abdulazim Ozdemir was arrested after being expelled from the Ministry of Development. He got lung cancer in prison. Despite all the demands of Industrial Engineer Ozdemir, he wasn’t released until he reached the 4. stage of cancer. His imprisoned wife Emir Ozdemir revealed that Mr. Ozdemir was diagnosed late and his treatment was delayed. Emir Ozdemir, who wrote a letter to Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu of the HDP from Kirikkale Keskin T-Type Prison, said, “Despite going to the doctor many times, I wonder how a disease in the 4. stage is not understood? I wonder if the late jaundice surgery caused cancer? Are there any omissions?” Emir Ozdemir, who was caught in the Corona on the days of her husband’s death, could not be informed of the pain.

HE WAS ARRESTED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND GOT CANCER
According to Sevinc Ozarslan from Bold Media, Abdulazim Ozdemir, a graduate of METU Industrial Engineering, was expelled with Decree Law No. 672, which was issued in September 2016 while working as an engineer at the Ministry of Development. He was later arrested and sent to Ankara Sincan Prison. Ozdemir, who was detained for 14 months, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in the last court where he was released. Ozdemir, whose file has been pending in the Supreme Court for 1.5 years, was arrested again in March 2019 after his sentence was approved and placed in T-Type Prison No. 1 in Bandırma.

HIS WIFE WAS ABLE TO ANNOUNCE THE EVENTS BY A LETTER TO GERGERLIOGLU
Abdulazim Ozdemir, who was imprisoned for the second time, was diagnosed with 4. stage liver cancer. However, the diagnosis and treatment of his illness was late. Emir Ozdemir, the wife of Abdulazim Ozdemir, who has been detained in the Kırıkkale Keskin T-Type Prison for about two years, wrote a letter to Omer Faruk Gergerlioğlu of the HDP on January 7, 2020 and gave the following information about her husband’s condition: “My wife was safe when she entered prison. Then he got sick. He was diagnosed with kidney stones. He hasn’t recovered. When his body turned yellow and blistered, he was urgently taken to the doctor. It turns out that there are no kidney stones. His condition was jaundice. He had to have surgery right away. But he was brought back to prison because the instrument he was going to operate on broke down. The doctor told him about the referral to Bursa or Izmir. But the Eid al-Adha was interrupted, it was neglected. My wife met with the administration, but he was forgotten. He was not dispatched. He was not operated on. He fell from hand to foot. He could not eat or drink anything (he could not even drink tea). His friends met his needs. Finally, the tool that was damaged in August turned out to have been made in a few days. He may have had surgery before. In the operation, the part was removed and sent to Ankara for pathology. By the way, he lost excess weight. Because this process took 2-3 months. After the operation, he recovered. He began to gain weight. In December, the pathology came as a result. ‘He may have surgery again,’ she said. It would be checked if it was benign or malignant.”

“I WONDER HOW THE DISEASE WAS NOT UNDERSTOOD, EVEN THOUGH HE WENT TO THE DOCTOR MANY TIMES?”
“After many tests, on January 6, 2020, unfortunately, I found out that he had 4. stage liver cancer. I’m devastated. Despite repeatedly going to the doctor, I wonder how a disease in stage 4 is not understood? I wonder if the late jaundice surgery caused cancer? Are there any omissions? A lot of questions in my head.”

HIS WIFE CONTRACTED CORONA IN PRISON, SHE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL
Before being dismissed as a deputy, Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu, who was pursuing the incident, had repeatedly raised the situation of Abdulazim Ozdemir in Parliament last year. Ozdemir, who was released in February 2020 due to social media pressure, had been receiving treatment in Ankara for a year. Emir Ozdemir, the wife of Abdulazim Ozdemir, who has 3 daughters aged 10 and 16, a mathematics teacher of 20 years, was also sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison as part of the investigations against the Gulen Movement. Emir Ozdemir, who has been detained for about two years, was infected with coronavirus in the ward in the weeks after her husband passed away. According to information provided by family relatives, Emir Ozdemir could not be told that her husband had passed away until his health condition improved.
