Purge-victim Turkish teacher reinstated to job after two years of her death
Emine Yurukcu, a Turkish teacher who was removed from her job by a government decree early in 2017, has been reinstated after two years of her death, the Turkish media reported.
According to the Kronos news portal, Yurukcu was fired as a primary school teacher without a due trial over her alleged links to the Gülen group, which the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt on July 15, 2016. The group denies any involvement.
Following her dismissal, 47-year-old Yurukcu was reportedly diagnosed with breast cancer. Unfortunately, the late treatment yielded no positive results, and Yurukcu died several weeks after the diagnosis. However, according to her husband, Musa Yurukcu, she was found innocent and reinstated to her job on June 1, 2021.
“And today is the day. My wife, Emine Yurukcu, was reinstated to her job two years after her death. Because of cancer, she qualified for a 90 per cent disability rating. But they fired her because of membership in a union,” Musa Yurukcu tweeted.
More than 150,000 people were removed from state jobs. In contrast, over 50,000 others were jailed, and some 600,000 people have been investigated on allegations of terrorism since the coup attempt in Turkey due to their alleged links to the Gülen movement, which vehemently denies any involvement in the failed putsch.
