Brigadier General Mehmet Sükrü Eken, the former commander of Samsun Garrison, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, died due to the coronavirus he was caught in Bafra Prison. Eken was a beloved commander in the Southeast.

Eken, a former Samsun Garrison Commander who was sentenced to life in prison, died of coronavirus in prison. Eken had an ‘halay dance’ with the BDP mayor of Eruh, who was arrested from the KCK and returned to his post, in 2013, so he is called the ‘halay commander’ in the Southeast and was very liked in the region.

Brigadier General Mehmet Sükrü Eken, the former commander of the Samsun Garrison, was detained the day after the coup attempt of July 15, 2016 and arrested by the court on July 17, where he was tried. The 3. Criminal Court of Samsun filed a lawsuit against Brigadier General Mehmet Sükrü Eken (56) with the allegation of “Attempting to abolish the order envisaged by the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, or to replace this order, or to prevent the actual implementation of the order by using force and violence.”. ..

He was sentenced to life in prison on allegations of  “Attempting to abolish the order envisaged by the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, or to replace this order, or to prevent the actual implementation of the order by using force and violence.” in 6 April 2018. He contracted Coronavirus in Bafra Prison, due to poor conditions there. March 24, 2014 – After his condition worsened, Eken was taken to the Bafra State Hospital and treated. Eken, who was being treated for coronavirus in the intensive care unit of the hospital, passed away on the night of April 19.

Eken’s funeral, which was removed to the morgue of Samsun Education and Research Hospital, was sent to Trabzon Forensic Medical Institution for autopsy operations due to coronavirus by the decision of the Samsun Public Prosecutor’s Office. After the autopsy, he was buried in his hometown of Cankırı.
