Unal Takmakli, one of the founders of “Ugur Derin Dondurucu”, which has become a world-renowned brand, was arrested after 15 July on the allegation that he “provided financial support to a terrorist organization”. The heart of Takmakli, one of the few businessmen of Turkey with his contributions to the economy, could not stand the unfair treatment he was subjected to. The 77-year-old famous industrialist had a heart attack in the prison where he was imprisoned and died in the hospital he was taken to.

Unal Taklı was arrested on July 28, 2016 as part of the Cemaat investigations conducted in Aydın. As part of the same investigation conducted by the Aydin Public Prosecutor’s Office, Unal Takmakli was detained together with his brothers. His brothers Mehmet Takmakli and Ali Takmakli were arrested on July 28 in Nazilli and Unal Takmakli was put in the Menemen T Type Prison.

Unal Takmakli, who had a heart attack on 29 November 2016 in the fourth month of his detention, was taken to the Menemen State Hospital. Unal Takmakli lost his life despite the treatments. Unal Takmaklı’s body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy. Takmaklı was buried in Nazilli Eğriboyun Cemetery on Thursday.

According to the Akit news, Mustafa Takmakli, who made a statement after the death of his father, said: “Today we have learned that he passed away in prison. Unal Takmakli is not the owner or ‘partner’ of ‘Ugur Derin Dondurucu’ as stated in the press, he ended his shareholding as of 1996.”
