Police Chief Inspector Unal Coban committed suicide 8 months after retiring voluntarily, with a gun that he held to his head in the Ankara Police Headquarters parking lot. Unal, who had been treated for cancer for a while, died in the hospital where he was taken, despite all the interventions he could not be saved. After the incident that took place on 06 April 2018, only the following statement was made from the Ministry of Interior:
“Unal Coban, Chief Inspector of Police, who retired 8 months ago from the Head of the Inspection Board of the General Directorate of Security and was treated for cancer, tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the parking lot of the General Directorate of Security with a gun, and died in the hospital where he was taken, despite all the efforts, but could not be saved.”
