Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Hasan Yucel, the Commander of the General Staff Service Battalion, allegedly ended his life in his room at Headquarters on July 20, 2016. On the night of July 15, Lieutenant Yucel was one of the officers who spent the night in the General Staff Headquarters. Yucel allegedly committed suicide in his chair at Headquarters on July 20, 2016, around 10:30 a.m., as a result of his sadness. He allegedly pointed a pistol at his heart and fired the trigger while two of his buddies were in the room. It’s unclear if the incident was a suicide or a homicide.

It is stated that Lieutenant Colonel Yucel, who followed some of the incidents during the so-called coup attempt on July 15 from the General Staff Image Monitoring Center, could not get over the effects of what had happened after Monday onwards (July 18) when he returned to work. Hasan Yucel was claimed to be depressed, as seen by his frequent comments of grief and regret, such as “We couldn’t do it, we couldn’t prevent the putschist traitors.” And it was stated that on Wednesday, July 20, about 10.30 a.m., in his room, he trigged the gun to his heart and fired it while two of his friends were present in the room. Lieutenant Colonel Hasan Yucel’s departure, which he could not accept what was happened, even though the service battalion he was in command of had no duty of protection, i.e., he had no obligation, was not subjected to an efficacious investigation.
