Police officer Hakki Topal, father of two, working in Corum Provincial Police Department, allegedly got depressed after being suspended and ended his life by hanging himself from a tree in the forest area near Seydim Pond, where he went by his car, plate number: 45 AY 663.

On October 21, 2016, 42-year-old Cigdem Topal called the police and asked for help when she could not reach her husband even though he called her on the phone that day. Police and gendarmerie teams started a search operation in the forest area when the security forces determined that Topal’s vehicle was near the Seydim Pond. Unfortunately, Topal’s body was found hanging from a tree. Hakki Topal left behind a grieving wife and children, 16-year-old Mert Topal and 12-year-old Melek Sude Topal. According to the news in the newspapers, his daughter Melek Sude Topal said, “I want my father back. Give me back my father. My father was innocent.” His wife said, “You ruined us. My husband was not guilty of anything,” and testified to the distress and pressure experienced by the police officer.
