Esma Ozgul (41) was a teacher of Serhat Coaching Centre (*) in Kayseri, which was closed with a Decree-Law after July 15. Ozgul, who was unemployed after the closure of the educational institution where she worked, was later diagnosed with colon cancer as a result of the distress and stress she experienced. Unfortunately, she died. Esma teacher was buried after the funeral prayer held at the Hacilar Mosque.
Two tearful children were left behind. While one of the children was going to the second year of university, baby Elif was only three years old.
Hundreds of thousands of people’s lives have been dimmed by the state of emergency decisions, which caused hundreds of thousands of violations of human rights. But unfortunately, such determinations also laid the groundwork for unlawful practices as well as extrajudicial execution in our country after the July 15 coup d’état.
Many innocent people were unjustly dismissed from their jobs with the state of emergency, leaving no opportunity to live. Unfortunately, so many people were dismissed from their profession with the decree-laws, and therefore these innocent people, whose medical treatment was left unfinished, were almost left to die.
Esma Ozgul was expelled from her profession with the statutory decrees enacted within the scope of the state of emergency that darkened people’s lives. She was working as a teacher at Serhat Coaching Centre in Kayseri and had colon cancer.
After the Coaching Centre where Ozgul worked was closed, her health insurance support was discontinued unjustly. Ozgul passed away in Kayseri as a result of the unfinished treatment. Esma teacher, who took her place among those who lost their lives with the OHAL and KHK massacres, left a tearful family behind. One more account is left to the hereafter.
*: Serhat Coaching Centre is a chain of private tutoring schools in Turkey. As of 2013, Serhat Coaching Centre had 8 branches in Nigde, Kirsehir and Kayseri. The top scores in those three cities for the Secondary School Placement Test and University Placement Test were always from Serhat Coaching Centre. Their students were always the most successful in the region. Like Serhat Coaching Centre, there were 917 coaching centres in almost all cities in Turkey. But, unfortunately, all were shut down by the regime, which is jealous, envious, hostile to education, and want the continuation of their reign rather than the welfare of the people. All the teachers, administrators, cooks, drivers, cleaners or food suppliers in such coaching centres…regardless of their relation to the coaching centres or being a Hizmet Movement follower or not, all of them were either arrested or purged by the regime.
