Biography

Bekir Tekcam worked in a private school as a Social Studies teacher in Konya, affiliated with Hizmet Movement and shut down with a Decree-Law. After his purge, he became jobless and started working as a porter. Tekcam, the father of two children, died in a traffic accident with his vehicle in Corum.
Vehbi Tekcam (47) and his brother Bekir Tekcam (44), who were changing the flat tire of their car while returning from the wedding, were hit by a truck in Corum. While both brothers lost their lives at the scene, the court arrested the truck driver Erkan Bektas (44), who surrendered to the police. The accident occurred on the 32nd kilometre of the Corum-Samsun Road. Bekir Tekcam, his elder brother Vehbi and five relatives were returning from the wedding and the tire of the car, with 05 FC 043 plate, burst while driving. Bekir Tekcam pulled the vehicle to the side of the road to change the tire.
The Tekcam brothers, who got out of the vehicle and tried to replace the spare tire, were hit by Erkan Bektas’s truck. Bekir and Vehbi Tekcam were thrown several meters away due to the impact and lost their lives at the scene. The five relatives of the brothers waiting by the roadside were shocked by seeing the truck crash into their relatives. Relatives of the Tekcam brothers informed the gendarmerie and medical teams in tears. The paramedic team took five people who could not get over the shock of the accident to Hitit University Erol Olcok Training and Research Hospital in ambulances. The bodies of the Bekir and Vehbi Tekcam brothers were taken to the hospital morgue after the prosecutor’s examination at the scene.

Tekcam was not allowed to work in any school after being released because, like everyone who was expelled by the Decree or was arrested with allegations of being a member of the Hizmet Movement, he was stigmatized as `Gulenist. A job cannot be given!’. Private business owners, who do not want to get into trouble with the regime, do not give jobs to those under the regime’s radar for fear of confiscating their workplaces in Erdogan’s Turkey.
