Police Chief Yavuz Bolek was arrested as part of the purge operations launched to cover up the 17-25 December corruption investigation. Despite having advanced colon cancer, Bolek was tried in pre-trial detention in two separate cases in Antalya and Izmir. Police Chief, whose treatment was interrupted in prison, had a stroke. Despite having surgery on the left and right sides of his brain twice, he was not released and died at the age of 52.
Yavuz Bolek, graduated from the police academy in 1992. Bolek was a successful police. He had succeeded in solving the terrorist attack in Kosuyolu on September 12, 2006, in which 10 people lost their lives, based on the evidence he found between two tiles in the bathroom. In return for this success, he was rewarded by being appointed as the Head of the Department.
He worked in the Terrorism and Intelligence Branch of the Izmir Police Department. He performed his east service in Diyarbakır. After 2009, he became the Director of the Antalya Intelligence Branch. In 2013, he was promoted to the 2nd Grade Police Chief. During his time as the chief of police in Antalya and Izmir, he brought down drugs, moonshine, and credit card gangs. He has also carried out successful operations in the field of counterterrorism. He was also the one who captured the perpetrators of the attack on soldiers in Foca and their ammunition in Alanya. He was dismissed from the profession on January 9, 2015, for serving in the 17-25 December Corruption investigations, in which 4 AKP Ministers and their children are involved. He was arrested on 1 October 2014 in Antalya. He was released after 4 days, but he was arrested for the second time on 25 August 2016 in İzmir during the arrest operations that started after 15 July.
‘I HAVE CANCER, I DON’T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO DEFEND MYSELF’
He was connected to the hearing held at the 3rd High Criminal Court of Antalya on February 13, 2017 through SEGBIS. Yavuz Bolek said, “I am a cancer patient, I do not have the strength to defend,” and that he had three surgeries in the last three months because he was a cancer patient. Stating that he is undergoing intensive chemotherapy, Bolek stated that he does not have the strength to defend himself. His requests for release were not accepted during his illness. Police chief Yavuz Bolek, who was not released despite being ill with cancer and paralyzed, died on June 16, 2019.
