Ugurcan was one of the two children of the Gencturk family with epilepsy. His father, Husnu Gencturk, was working as a municipal police officer in Mamak Municipality. Husnu Gencturk was among the thousands of civil servants who lost their jobs with the Decree-Laws issued after 15 July. He was dismissed from his post. At home, he had two children who were in need of care and had epilepsy. The care of the children named Sibel (16) and Ugurcan (21) was based on financial expenses.
Ugurcan Gencturk, who had a 99 percent disability other than epilepsy, passed away on September 18, 2018 in this period. The human rights defender and activist Veli Sacilik, who is well-known to the public, announced Ugurcan’s death on his twitter account as follows: “The disabled son of expelled Husnu Gencturk, Ugurcan, passed away. I’m sorry, so sorry.”
