Mehmet Ali Tokel got lung cancer due to stress and sadness as he was arrested and sent to Antalya Prison after being expelled by Decree-Law. He could not be treated appropriately under the conditions of Turkish prisons, where 30-40 people are accommodated with ten people capacity-wards. Tokel encountered severe disruptions in the treatment process due to the unlawful decisions of the prison administration. Although he was released at an advanced stage of his illness, there was no hope for his recovery. Tokel succumbed to the lung cancer he had been diagnosed with, and he died.
