It was alleged that guardian Omer Cubuklu, who was arrested in Izmir, ended his life by hanging himself with shoelaces and tracksuit laces in the temporary admission section where he was held alone in F Type Prison No.
Cubuklu was referred to the courthouse with the 7 suspects whose procedures at the police station were completed, as part of the investigation carried out by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on 31 August 2016. Later, 2 retired police officers, 2 guardians, and 1 person were arrested on charges of “being a member of an armed terrorist organization” following the prosecution’s accusations. Two suspects were released on condition of judicial control. It was claimed that the suspects contacted the organization through the encrypted program called “ByLock” and transferred information to the organization and received instructions. It was claimed that Cubuklu committed suicide on the evening of the day he was arrested and sent to Izmir No:2 Type F High Security Closed Penitentiary Institution. His suspicious death was not investigated, what he went through in prison in the environment of torture and ill-treatment after 15 July, and what the real face of the incident was, was not investigated.
