Vahdettin Demirtas was one of the first volunteer teachers of Turkmenistan. After 9 years of service, he returned to his country, but the institution where he worked was closed by Decree Law after July 15. He faced tragic-comic accusations for teaching the Quran. Demirtas contracted cancer from sadness. Due to the arrest warrant against him, the education volunteer, who was hiding and unable to receive the necessary treatment, succumbed to cancer and died.

He had returned to Turkey from Turkmenistan, but the institution where he worked was closed by Decree Law after July 15. An investigation was initiated against him, as well, based on a complaint dating back 18 years. The complaint, on the other hand, consisted of a tragic-comic content such as ‘Teaching the Qur’an free of charge to anyone who wishes and giving religious advice’. Demirtaş, who was both unemployed and found himself in an unfair legal process in the country he came from years later, got cancer from sadness. He had to hide.
